Bloemen series

After writing about Hurricane Katrina for the Amsterdam Weekly ,
bringing Dutch journalist Caroline Griep and photographer
Jeannine Govearts to New Orleans for Marie Clare and visiting
the city six times in the year after the storm, the psychological
aftermath of Katrina began to take its toll.

Kleinveld became disillusioned with the lack of political will to
rebuild one of America's greatest cities. Inspired by the work
of Dutch photographer, Margriet Smulders, Kleinveld embarked
on a new series with the aim to bring back color and "joie de vivre"
into her life, (two things that New Orleans has always stood for)
Kleinveld began photographing flowers in an abstract and painterly
way. And so the series bloemen was born.
